Disco Elysium – The Final Cut ROM time to time, there is a game that is entirely new. Once in a while, le a game emerges that seems totally different. We’re sure you’ve heard it a thousand times before: why is this one different? We understand that most of the time when a game is called ‘unique’, you can probably find at least a few well-worn tropes, and that applies to Disco Elysium: The Final Cut. There’s definitely nothing like this on the market right now, as this certainly makes use of familiar individual mechanics.
Disco Elysium has been around for a while on other platforms and chances are by now if you’ve seen any gameplay or commentary around the game, then you already know whether or not it’s going to be up your alley (which would also save us the unenviable job of actually explaining what the heck it’s all about). This release on Switch carries the subtitle ‘The Final Cut’, delivering what appears to be the definitive version of the game; but we’ll get into what’s been added a bit later.

The story starts off in the deep, unending nothingness of your subconscious. Voices begin to narrate your thoughts and eventually you awaken in a trashed apartment room. Your clothes are strewn about the place and you’ve no memory of the preceding events or even who you are. The disheveled, mutton-chopped amnesiac you play as is the star of the show. Despite the severe loss of memory, you quickly discover that you’re a detective tasked with investigating the death of a man hanging from a tree at the rear of a cafeteria. You work closely with the straight-laced Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi, who guides you as you navigate your investigation, but is also not afraid to scold you should you make any questionable decisions. He’s a wonderful character, and we will protect him with our lives.
